Create.Connect has been a work-in-progress since 2010. Along the way we’ve developed many techniques and approaches for bringing informal STEM learning and history together into one experience.

In Create.Connect, we found that the STEM activities were the most frequently visited elements in the exhibition—and promoted the longest stay times. Here’s how we integrated them with the history.

Early evaluation of Create.Connect prototypes showed that far fewer visitors stopped at the historical objects and labels than at the STEM activities. By adding hands-on elements to the historical objects and labels, we increased visitor’s interaction with them, which included more intergenerational conversations.
